LIVERPOOL are reportedly considering a summer swoop for influential Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater.
Drinkwater, who has played a pivotal role in the Foxes’ stunning success this season, has two years left on his current Leicester contract but, like many of his title-winning team-mates, he is sure to be offered a bumper new deal at the King Power Stadium in the near future.
Drinkwater won his first England cap in March and is expected to feature in Roy Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2016 where he will have the opportunity to impress further on the big stage.
The 26-year-old is also reportedly a target for Chelsea, but the new champions of England are desperate to keep their stars on board.
Speaking to Gazzetta World, Leicester vice-president Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, son of owner Vichai, said:
“We will not sell our best players. We want to create an even stronger team. The players have grown together and want to stay.”
Foxes’ manager Claudio Ranieri echoed these remarks, saying: “I know how football works, but I hope to convince our players to stay with us. Continuing to be with Leicester in their first season in the Champions League will only enable them to develop even more.”
Despite their incredible achievements this season, it would be difficult for Drinkwater to knock back an offer from a club like Liverpool or Chelsea.
Much will depend on whether or not his Leicester team-mates – many of whom are also now highly-sought after – will commit themselves to the Foxes.
