Klopp sizing up Charlton prodigy

Ademola

LIVERPOOL have joined the hunt for £6million-rated Charlton wonderkid Ademola Lookman, according to several sources.

The Daily Mirror reports: “The Anfield club have become the latest to express an interest in the 18-year-old who is set to leave the Valley this summer following Charlton’s relegation to League One.

“Forward Lookman has burst onto the scene this season, scoring five times in 16 starts and was named Football League apprentice of the year last month.”

London giants Chelsea and Tottenham were both keen to secure the striker in the January transfer window but were unable to strike a deal, while Arsenal and Everton also expressed interest.

In the end Lookman signed a new contract with Charlton that runs until 2020 but the Addicks now accept they have little choice but to cash in this summer after suffering the drop to League One.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Reds have raided Charlton in recent times – last summer they snapped up another promising teenager in defender Joe Gomez for £3.5m.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to pull out of the race for striker Michy Batshuayi, according to the Guardian.

The 22-year-old has been a long-term target for the Reds but it is believed they are not prepared to pay the bumper fee – around £30m – Marseille are demanding.
