MANCHESTER UNITED have a battle on their hands to keep midfielder Ander Herrera this summer.
The Spanish star is the subject of growing interest from his homeland – namely Atletico Madrid – while he is also believed to be on the radar of Juventus as the Italian giants weigh up midfield reinforcements for Paul Pogba, who is set to leave Turin at the end of the season.
The Daily Mail reports:
“The 26-year-old enters the final two years of his contract in the summer, but has an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.
“The former Real Zaragoza star has played in various positions in Louis van Gaal’s midfield since his arrival at the start of last season.
“But Van Gaal’s ploy to utilise Herrera, whose preferred position is at No 10, in different roles is believed to be a source of frustration for the Spaniard.”
We believe Herrera would be a big loss to United.
Despite not always being a regular starter under Van Gaal, he’s become a real favourite of the Old Trafford fans.
The Spaniard’s work-rate is outstanding as is his tenacity, while he is one of the few players currently at United capable of producing a creative spark and opening up an opposition defence.
He’s also chipped in with his share of goals since arriving from Atletico Madrid for £29million in 2014.
And at 26 he’s still got his best years ahead of him.
What do Red Devils supporters think, can United afford to let Herrera go?
