LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp has been handed a return to Borussia Dortmund, with the Reds facing the German side in the Europa League quarter-finals.
Klopp, who left Dortmund last summer after leading them to two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final, said after his side’s 3-1 aggregate victory against Manchester United that he wanted to avoid them in the last eight.
“Dortmund – why would I want the world’s strongest team?” said Klopp, when asked whether he would like to face his former club in the next round.
“But if we go there, we try to win. We have to be prepared and hopefully we are.”
Football romantics would also have been hoping the reunion took place in the final in Basle.
And, make no mistake, Dortmund would not have chosen Liverpool as their next opponents either.
The Premier League outfit are not the strongest side they could have faced but with Klopp’s background and intimate knowledge of the club, this could well prove Dortmund’s toughest test – even if they do go on to lift the trophy.
Liverpool fans, can Klopp get one over his old club?
Europa League quarter-final draw
