“Outstanding” leader a good fit for Arsenal

FORMER England hard-man Stuart Pearce believes Arsenal should try to entice Yaya Toure to the club in the summer.

The four-time African Player of the Year looks likely to leave the Etihad at the end of the season, despite having a year remaining on his contract.

Incoming City boss Pep Guardiola sold the Ivory Coast midfielder from Barcelona while he was in charge at the Nou Camp but Toure has indicated he may be interested in remaining in the Premier League.

We actually think it’s not a bad call by Pearce. At 32, Toure still has at least a couple of good years left in him at the elite level.

Pearce said: “On his day Yaya Toure is outstanding.

“Arsenal need an old head within the team.

“Petr Cech hass proved a fantastic success this year at Arsenal, and to have a player like Toure at the centre of midfield, as that holding type of player, I think he’d give one or two of the youngsters a bit of a lift.

“I think he’d be a good signing for them.”

And, while Arsenal have plenty of flair and creativity in midfield, it’s been proven again this season that they lack a powerful presence in midfield, as well as someone with leadership qualities.

Whether or not City would sell Toure to a potential title rival is another question.

Arsenal fans, would you like to see Toure at the Emirates?
