TOTTENHAM cruised into the last 16 of the Europa League with another impressive display, beating Fiorentina 3-0 at White Hart Lane to advance 4-1 on aggregate.

This latest result against a very decent side who sit third in Serie A – just six points behind leaders Juventus – was even more meritorious given that Harry Kane played no part.

The in-form striker wasn’t even on the bench after suffering a broken nose in the weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace.

It’s been a long time between major trophies for Tottenham. They won the League Cup in 2009, 18 years after their last FA Cup success, while you have to go back to 1984 for their most ‘recent’ European trophy when they lifted the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League).

As for the last time Spurs celebrated being champions of England – that was way back in 1961 -when they claimed a League and FA Cup double.

Is it too much to start dreaming of another ‘double’ the Premier League and Europa League?

There’s a fair way to go in both competitions but if Mauricio Pochettino’s men can maintain their current form, who knows?
They certainly have more depth than ever before and, unlike previous seasons, the Europa League doesn’t seem to be hindering their league form … so far.

Pochettino is certainly confident in his group of players, telling Sporting Life: “It is true we are in different competitions and have a lot of games ahead but it is for that that we have a strong squad and it is important to try and win and give our best in all the games we play.

“The mentality is perfect. The players want to play every game and they feel they are strong and can play every game and win the game but we need to carry on in the same way.

“It is important that we have a strong squad in this period it is important to use all, to motivate all and to keep them fit. It is big competition between them (for places) and that is a benefit to the team.”

Are Tottenham the Premier League’s best chance of winning the Europa League this season? And Spurs fans, do you dare to dream of a double, is it possible?
