LIVERPOOL could be set to make a move for Real Madrid’s Jese Rodriguez in the summer.
The 22-year-old winger has struggled for game time at the Spanish giants this season – not surprising really given he’s competing for a place with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, however, is a big fan of the Spaniard and believes he would fit into his system at Anfield.
According to Spanish source OkDiario, the La Liga club will demand £20million, despite Jese being surplus to requirements in Madrid.
Liverpool will also have some competition for his signature, with Premier League rivals Arsenal keen on his services.
Big things were expected of local product Jese – arguably the most talented Real Madrid youth player to emerge at the club in the past decade – following his debut in 2011 but earning a regular place in the star-studded Madrid line-up has proved beyond him.
Much will depend on how much playing time new Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane gives the youngster between now and the end of the campaign, although the signs are not promising with Zidane admitting recently that Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo remains an unbreakable triple act.
“I will always play with the three of them, that is definitely the plan,” Zidane said.
With speed, power and creativity, Jese would appear to have the tools necessary to succeed in the Premier League.
Added to that, his work-rate is excellent – something that’s crucial to the way Klopp likes to play.
Although far from the finished article, he would give Liverpool another option up front but £20m is a hefty outlay for a player who’s still to really prove himself on a consistent basis.
Liverpool fans, worth a look or not worth it at that price?
