PAUL POGBA is set to add further to Manchester United’s woes by signing for crosstown rivals Manchester City in the summer.
The French midfielder all but issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to new City manager Pep Guardiola and proceeded to shower the former Barcelona boss with praise, claiming Guardiola would take his game to a new level.
Asked whether he would like to work with Guardiola in the future, Pogba told Sky Sports:
“I am a Juventus player now, but for sure when there is a coach like him he will coach you and you will become better.
“All the players respect him. You only have to look at him and you want to learn from him. I’ve heard that he improves every player. He is a football icon.
“Right now I am still with Juventus, but clearly if you have chance to work with someone like him, you can only develop further.”
The 22-year-old, who of course left United in 2012 after being starved of opportunities under then boss Sir Alex Ferguson, is not short of suitors, with Chelsea and Real Madrid also long-term admirers.
But the appointment of Guardiola at the Etihad looks to have given City the edge and with Yaya Toure set to depart in the summer, the powerful and elegant Pogba would be the perfect replacement.
City baulked at Juventus’ £70million-plus asking price for the France international last year but, although Pogba is contracted with the Turin club until 2019, we think a slightly improved bid this summer would be enough to see him wearing the sky blue of Manchester City next season.
Are City fans confident of getting Pogba and should the club make him their number one priority for next season?
