THEY thump Championship-bound Aston Villa – described by former Liverpool great Jamie Carragher as the worst team in the history of the Premier League – and one Reds fan is now backing his side to finish in the top three … this season!
Khurram of Loughborough writes on Football365:
“I am not suggesting that it would be easy for us to overturn the 13-point gap with Spurs (who we can take three points off in April) but a top 3 finish is hardly an impossible task. We also play City in a couple of week’s time and they are currently sinking without a trace. I know it’s very fashionable to proclaim Klopp’s eventual ascendance to the Premier League throne as a false dawn filled with hype and so I look forward to laughing at our detractors come 15th of May.”
We’ve heard of supporters getting carried away with one good victory but seriously…
The loyalty and optimism is to be admired but there’s more chance of Louis van Gaal starting next season in charge of Manchester United than Liverpool ending the campaign in the Champions League places, let alone in third place. A quick look at the table shows they’re only a point closer to the top three than they are to the relegation zone!
Sure, they looked okay against Villa but there are a lot of Championship sides who would have comfortably seen off Remi Garde’s shambolic outfit based on that abject display – and probably will do next season.
Give Jurgen Klopp time and a fit Daniel Sturridge for a decent period of matches and Liverpool might give the top four a real shake next season but at the moment they’re far too inconsistent to string a run of results together to get anywhere near the top three.
With league fixtures to come against Manchester City and Tottenham, Liverpool may well have a say in the ultimate destination of the title but the only smiles from Reds fans come the end of the season will be if they manage to close the three-point gap to bitter rivals Manchester United.
Surely there aren’t any other Liverpool supporters out there who believe their side is capable of finishing in the top three? What would be an acceptable position given the early season turmoil and change of manager?

Don’t forget Klopp is trying to get the best out of players he didn’t personally sign, I would like to see where we could have been with no injuries? however they have come back into contention at the right time, I do believe we’ll give City a good fight at Wembley and there’s still the Europa league, if Liverpool can keep injury free, they need fear no one.
