‘An honour’ to wear the shirt: Star clearly keen on Liverpool move but fee still a problem – report

Wonderful player

The prospective signing of Alex Teixeira feels very much like when Luis Suarez came to the club in 2011.

Like Suarez, Teixeira genuinely looks like the real deal. He could be about to explode onto the world scene with his next move and we feel that Liverpool definitely need to push the boat out on this one.

But Sky Sports reports today that progress is slow and they are not optimistic of a January deal:

Sky sources understand Alex Teixeira is unlikely to join Liverpool in this transfer window after the two clubs failed to agree a fee for the Brazilian.

Shakhtar Donetsk wanted at least £35million for a player they consider to be their last remaining valuable asset.

Apparently annoyed at having let Douglas Costa leave for Bayern on, what they regard as the cheap, Shaktar are reportedly digging their heels in over price with Liverpool for Teixeira.

But in a thinly masked plea the player himself is quoted as saying in The Guardian:

‘My agent is doing everything possible to help me get to Liverpool’

“The team received one official offer from Liverpool and it was rejected. I don’t know why. It was a great offer. It is frustrating but the manager and club president decided against it so now I am just waiting and trying to be patient.

“[Liverpool] is a huge club and many great players have played there. It would be an honour to wear the Liverpool shirt.

We would ask the Anfield board to look at the Suarez deal. He cost about £22.8m in 2011. But, in retrospect, would he still have been value for money at £30M? £35M? Even £40M?

The answer has to be yes.

Suarez not only completely reignited Liverpool and got them within a whisker of the title.

But he was also sold for around £75m. We feel that Teixeira could be in the same sort of category as the Uruguayan. And we feel that fortune will favour the brave on this one. A few million here or there won’t matter in two years.

Other clubs will want him in the summer and now seems to be the perfect time, and perhaps only realistic opportunity, for Liverpool to conclude a deal for the Brazilian with other clubs on the back foot.

The Shaktar Donetsk coach is quoted as saying of the player:

‘He’s worth €50m,’

‘He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, Di Maria for example at Paris Saint Germain.
‘Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.’

Let’s see some of his best moments.

Liverpool fans: too pricey or too good to miss?
