Manchester United: Who knows more about football? Rooney or Woodward?

Ridiculous

Regular readers of soccersweep may have seen a recent article which highlighted Wayne Rooney’s selections at the recent Ballon d’Or vote.

Lionel Messi won his 5th title – hats off the to the best player that you are ever likely to see in your long life – but there was also a vote for best manager in the world in 2015.

In what as surely a thinly veiled cry for help the Manchester United captain went for Jose Mourinho as the top man.

Mourinho made little disguise of the fact that he tried to sign Rooney in 2013 – he famously took Chelsea to Old Trafford without a recognised centre-forward in a show of what was missing to him.

We completely agree with Rooney that, while everyone has imperfections, Jose is the best manager in the world. He’s got the tactical nous to go with the drive. The man-management skills to complement his acute eye for a top transfer.

But, in a rather alarming development The Guardian asserted:

Woodward is solely responsible for Van Gaal’s future and who will manage United in the long term.

Why does Woodward get to make such big football decisions? Surely those should be taken by footballers or football people?

Woodward is not a football man. He’s from a financial background and we would never even ask him in passing for his football opinion.

So why are Manchester United making him solely responsible for managerial decisions?

We would take Rooney’s opinion any day of the week.

It just seems utterly bizarre.

After 3 seasons of mediocrity for the Manchester United team, time is running out for Rooney and he knows Mourinho is the man to make the team great again.

Woodward is a risk adverse accountant who has neither the skills nor the guts to do what is necessary to get Man United back on track. Until Woodward is gone; MU might as well stick with LvG who although a very unskilled manager still knows far more than Woodward. MU is destined to end up as a mid-table club and unless Woodward is gone soon will continue to slip.
