Arsenal: Thierry Henry talks transfers

Legend

When he talks we always listen. Not just because he is a Premier League and Arsenal legend who deserves to be carried on a cushioned throne whenever he is in North London.

But because he knows football.

He has had lots to say about Arsenal’s transfer window activity so far and what else they might require in January.

And, rather unusually for Arsenal observers and football pundits in general, the Frenchman actually implied that Arsenal don’t need to invest any further right now.

Asked about further additions Henry told Sky:

“We always talk about whether it is the right time to buy? Are the right players available?

“Mohamed Elneny has just arrived, we all know the role he plays in midfield which is a ‘destroyer’.

And he also pointed to a very impressive duo of crocked stars who are close to coming back into the Arsenal fold over the next few weeks:

“Danny Welbeck will be coming back and hopefully Jack Wilshere too. There are a lot of players who are yet to return from injury.”

“Those players will be like new signings.”

Unlike some Arsenal observers, we think that Jack Wilshere is a fantastic footballer. Perhaps his attacking instincts have been blunted by him playing deeper when he was last fit. But he can play anywhere and would go straight into our team as soon as he is recovered.

We genuinely hope that he can put his injury troubles behind him and not have a career defined by injury.

As for Danny Welbeck, he was always fit at Manchester United and this will hopefully be a one-off, lengthy injury for him. He’s another player who can make a big difference in the final throes of the campaign.

But let’s leave the last word to the Arsenal ledge who suggests that Arsenal don’t need to make any more signings to push for the title.

“Right now the team is showing they are good enough to perform. I said a couple of weeks ago that they should go and buy a holding midfielder, and they did. Hopefully the injured players can come back and help the team win the title.”
