Arsenal have once more been linked with a move for the promising young playmaker Granit Xhaka in the latest news cycle.

The 23-year-old has already played 39 times and scored 6 goals from midfield for Switzerland and he is getting better by the month. His name became more prominent at The World Cup in Brazil 2014 where he gave a decent performance and scored against France in a game which ultimately ended in defeat for a mediocre Swiss side.

The Daily Star says:

Starsport understands that Premier League big boys Arsenal are admirers of the Switzerland international and are willing to splash out £37m to sign him.

And The London Evening Standard writes:

When asked what would happen if he joined Arsenal, he joked: “It was also here in Gladbach, with Amin Younes. And at Arsenal Coquelin has it. I’ve spoken with him, he would like to take another number!”

Xhaka moved from Swiss club Basel in 2012 to the Bundesliga, where he has represented Borussia Mönchengladbach with honours for the last few seasons. He’s played 127 games for the club and scored 9 goals. And there is very much a sense that the best is yet to come.

Arsenal have arguably been in need of a commanding presence in midfield since Patrick Vieira left the club. But Arsene Wenger has regularly overlooked the engine room and spent his money on more creative talents.

Francis Coquelin took the mantle last season but he has been out injured for most of this campaign and, despite Arsenal’s excellent form, we can’t help but think that another imperious box-to-box midfielder would help the club to sustain title challenges in the long-term.

Let’s have a look at Xhaka in action.

Arsenal fans: would he be a wise investment even that that price?
