The term ‘maverick’ is often ascribed to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his recent reported transfer attempts certainly embellish that reputation.
Because Spanish media outlet Marca has stated that Klopp has made an offer for a brilliant young Real Madrid playmaker:
Real Madrid: Turning down Klopp’s team’s offer
Real to Liverpool: “Odegaard is not for sale”
The report states that several clubs have contacted Los Blancos in attempts to sign the youngster on loan and that:
The last man to come sniffing has been Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
..the English club was hoping to be able to persuade him that he’d have a much better time of it dressed in red, under the orders of a manager specialised in getting the best out of young talent. Real Madrid, however, are not even willing to entertain such an idea.
The 17 year old schemer has only played once for Real Madrid and clearly isn’t considered ready yet to consistently turn out for the first team.
And the transfer ban handed down to Madrid on Thursday will surely only strengthen their resolve to hold on to as many of their playing roster as possible, as well as perhaps adding a few this month before the ban takes affect.
But it’s very interesting that Klopp saw the youngster as potentially being valuable to Liverpool in the shot-term. Despite playing 8 times for Norway Odegaard still has a comparatively slight frame and we all know that The Premier League is a very physical contest compared to La Liga.
Odegaard is an attacking midfielder but, with Philippe Coutinho out injured, perhaps Klopp saw the youngster playing in the hole at number ten for Liverpool.
It’s been something of rollercoaster ride for Klopp so far at Anfield but it’s encouraging to see that he is thinking outside the box and reportedly going for players of genuine imagination.
Let’s see some Odegaard highlights.
