Manchester United had some really decent performers in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle on Tuesday evening.
Wayne Rooney finally looked like the player of old. He was faster to the ball and much quicker on it. He led the line and brought others into play well. He also passed the ball well and had his shooting boots on. Overall he was much more spritely.
Anthony Martial was dangerous as ever and the use of two more conventional wingers worked well for Manchester United.
But the man who we felt brought everything together in attack was Ander Herrera. The 26-year-old demonstrated, in no uncertain terms, that his best position is at number where he can influence his team and penetrate the opposition with his wonderful, quick passing.
This position allows him to constantly play on the half-turn. As he accepts the ball he is already half way to facing forwards and attacking the opponent.
His defence-splitting pass to Rooney in the first half deserved a better finish and the back-heel for Lingard put the ball on plate for the profligate Englishman, who knows he should have finished from 10 yards out.
The problem for Manchester United and Herrera is that he has tended to follow a blinding performance with a completely anonymous showing.
But if he can add consistency to his game then he can become Manchester United’s version of David Silva.

It’s about time that Rooney earned that fat check. Still, he blew another great opportunity to go along with Lingard and Fellaini’s ultra poor finishing when well placed.
However, what’s more shocking is the fact that this prick, who has let Man U down, week after week after week, missing tons of opportunities along the way and having to be bailed out by his DEFENSE,
has the ‘balls’ to take a stab at his defense. That’s RICH!
