We will only know the answer in 5 years time when the facts have revealed themselves. But the Ronaldo to Manchester United story is either the most protracted return of all-time or the biggest newspaper selling nonsense since the press was formed.
Yet again today a big British media outlet has reported that the player will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and join either Manchester United or PSG.
The Telegraph leads with this ‘exclusive’:
Cristiano Ronaldo poised to quit Real Madrid this summer – despite Zinedine Zidane appointment
Exclusive: Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain likely to go head-to-head in battle to sign Portugal international
Ronaldo is a quite wonderful player and looks nowhere near finished at the age of 30. He’s scored 25 goals in 24 games this season and battered in 338 of the stinkers in just 324 games for Real Madrid – they are simply unbelievable stats.
Although The Premier League is arguably tougher than La Liga, you could easily imagine him hitting 40 for Manchester United next season if he did re-join the club that made him famous.
But we wonder whether, as time goes by, Gareth Bale is becoming an increasingly viable option, if only one can be signed. The figures required to bring Ronnie to the club would be huge and he would have little to no sell on value 4 years down the line.
That said, he would probably pay the club back every penny spent, with the success and sponsorships that he would bring to the club.
Let’s see Ronnie’s goals for Madrid this season.
