Busy January

Ok, it may be a little optimistic to suggest that Manchester United will make a dozen signings in January. And perhaps a managerial change would make more sense right now.

But The Daily Mail is suggesting that Manchester United could be very busy in January with the club keen on a long list of players.

soccersweep assesses the likelihood and suitability of the potential signings:

Sadio Mane (Southampton):

A wonderful footballer with great mobility and technique. He barely seems to touch the turf when he runs and his athleticism simply adds to his value. A great prospect but Manchester United will have to pay huge money to force Southampton’s hand.

Very exciting talent

Yoshinori Muto (Mainz):

The 23-year-old Japanese has seemingly come into the reckoning more recently but 2 goals in 17 internationals for his country would suggest that he may take time to find his scoring boots.

He has scored 7 in 15 for Mainz this term. But he won’t be at the top of Manchester United’s list of targets.

Felipe Anderson (Lazio):

For us he is the pick of the bunch. At 22 Anderson can become one of the best 5 players in the world. Touch, pace and guile. He can beat man with his ace and scores loads of goals – a gem.

Riyad Mahrez (Leicester):

A decent player but not the answer for United.

Goncalo Guedes (Benfica):

A young wizard who would be well worth a punt. But he’s still raw and wouldn’t provide immediate solutions to a struggling Manchester United side.

Rafa Silva (Sporting Braga):

The 23-year-old has had 3 solid seasons at Braga in Portugal and has been scoring goals from midfield. An interesting prospect but not an immediate first-teamer.

Lucas Moura (PSG):

A great winger. Would suit United down to the ground with his pace and trickery. But PSG are unlikely to sell.

Moussa Dembele (Fulham):

Another one for the future but not a player to shoot United back into the top four.

Saido Berahino (West Brom):

An excellent prospect but his temperament has to be a concern.

Benjamin Mendy (Marseille):

A strong 21-year-old left back with a big future ahead of him. Would be lovely squad addition.

Adriano (Barcelona):

Highly adaptable and possibly available. An interesting option.

Ryan Bertrand (Southampton):

A decent left back who has improved enormously in the last year. But his future would be clouded by the return of Luke Shaw and Bertrand may not fancy sitting on the bench for large chunks of next season.
