Liverpool are said to be keen on the signing of Cameroon international defender Joel Matip.
According to German media outlet Bild, the 24 year old is edging closer to a move to Anfield in order to bolster Liverpool’s back line.
Klopp wants to grab Schalke’s Matip
Matip (24/ contract until end of season) may switch free transfer in the summer and to fulfill his England dream.
Matip has had a distinguished career at Schalke after joining them from Bochum in 2009.
He has played 236 games for Schalke over the last 7 seasons and scored a very impressive 22 goals in that time as his adventurous nature has come to the fore.
The centre back can also play in defensive midfield and this adaptability could see him find a quick route into a Liverpool squad which has been regularly blighted by injury to key players in the defensive departments his season.
Sakho, Skrtel and Lovren have all been sidelined at times and Jon Flanagan and Joe Gomez continue their long recoveries after serious injury.
