A report today suggests that Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera will seek showdown talks with boss Louis van Gaal as he has become disillusioned with life on the sidelines at Old Trafford.

The Daily Star reports:

The Spanish ace reckons his career has stalled under Van Gaal this season and is planning to discuss his future with the Dutchman.

and ‘a source’ told the newspaper:

“He feels like he’s lost his identity as a player and doesn’t know what his role is anymore.

“His situation appears to be getting worse and he’s worried his career is going backwards, so there will have to be a chat with the manager.”

We can see both sides of this case. Herrera has only made 32 appearances over the course of a season and a half and would surely have expected more game time when he signed for Manchester United for such a fee.

Furthermore a payer like him may seem like the perfect option for many an onlooker as he could replace one of the defensive midfielders in the side and possibly unlock much more attacking prowess – we would certainly try him there.

On the other hand, Herrera rarely seems to play two good games in a row for Manchester United. He will regularly have a stormer and then go missing for the next match. Consistency is an issue but perhaps he would gain more if he played every week.

He’s a very creative player and Manchester United need creativity. But we feel that the longer Louis van Gaal stays at the club, the less likely the Spaniard is to settle.

Manchester United fans: should Louis give Ander a run in the team?
