Arsenal line up £22m January raid for Porto’s Ruben Neves
Arsene Wenger wants cover for the injured Francis Coquelin and is targeting the 18-year-old to help reignite the Gunners’ faltering title charge.
The 18 year old has had an amazing year and made 2 appearances for the Portugal side on the back of his great form.
He had a breakthrough year at Porto last season, making 37 appearances at the age of just 17 and scoring his first goal for the club.
Neves has become a stalwart in the side already and played 12 times this season.
We could totally understand why Arsenal like him as he is the sort of player who runs the midfield through guile rather than grit.
His technique sets him apart and he has great composure for one so young. He sees passes quickly and rarely gets caught in possession.
But would he be able to jump straight in to the far more physical and fast-paced Premier League? We aren’t so sure.
Likelihood? 6/10 – he would cost an awful lot of money and wouldn’t necessarily go straight into the first team. Arsenal perhaps need a more ready made star who can have a big impact immediately.
