It’s the club manager’s worst nightmare.
Your players go out on international duty and come back crocked.
And, in the case of Manchester United, you would struggle to crock more important players.
Because LvG has said that Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney will both miss the game against Watford on Saturday (kick off 12:45 local time, Vicarage Road).
Martial is still suffering from the knock he took to the top of his foot against England in midweek.
Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney suffered an illness after the game against France. According to BBC reporters:
“Wayne Rooney looks set to miss Manchester United’s trip to Watford after suffering with an illness this week following the international break. Manager Louis van Gaal confirmed the United captain has missed training twice this week, and Anthony Martial is also out after picking up an injury in France’s game with England at Wembley.
It’s the worst case scenario for the boss and it seriously lengthens Manchester United’s odds of a win this weekend.
With those two out Manchester United may well turn to James Wilson and Memphis Depay, who have seen precious little action of late but could turn out to be central figures for The Reds this weekend.
If you want to stay in the team you have to grab your opportunities with both hands and these two will be desperate to play against Watford.
Manchester United’s injury list now extends to Anthony Martial, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney.
