One of the great things about Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is that he commands respect.
A perfect example is that last season, rightly or wrongly, he benched Manchester United’s most expensive signing ever for months on end.
Can you imagine the response if David Moyes had left Angel di Maria on the sidelines for any length of time?
But he clearly also has a jovial side and David de Gea has, perhaps rather bravely, highlighted this ahead of Spain’s clash with England.
He told ESPN (via The Daily Mail):
He is a joker, makes a lot of jokes. Now and again he likes to do something so that there is a good mood. But we talk mostly about football.’
But he also states that he and the Manchester United manager have a very good professional relationship.
‘He is a good person. You can talk with him about anything you want, and face to face he is sincere. We have a normal relationship between a coach and player. We both want what is best for the club.
De Gea has conceded just 1 goal in his last 6 games and, if anything, he looks as if he has improved again this season as he attempts to cement his spot as Spain’s number 1.
And Manchester United fans will be delighted that he is enjoying life at United once again.
