Martial vs The Centre Backs
We still don’t know who Manchester City will choose in defence. All three of Mangala, Otamendi and the previously undroppable Kompany are fit. But the former two have been getting the most minutes of late.
Whoever plays there is going to have to marshall Martial superbly. Because, even at 19, this kid is absolutely deadly and comfortably Manchester United’s most potent attacking weapon.
Whether he starts wide left and drifts in, or plays at number 9, Martial is Aguero-esque in his speed around the box and striking ferocity.
Basically, if Manchester City can keep Martial quiet they should leave Old Trafford with at least a point.
De Bruyne vs Defence
Like Martial, De Bruyne can operate with equal impact wherever he plays. He’s a wonderfully efficient and composed player and one who Manchester United will need to keep shackled if they want the points.
If David Silva makes the team, De Bruyne would go out to the left and we feel that Matteo Darmian would be well equipped to deal with him. Antonio Valencia may struggle.
Midfield
Usually where the game is won or lost. Manchester United lost the Arsenal game because of a sluggishness in the Carrick/Schweinsteiger partnership. Louis would be brave to put them both in there again but we have a sneaking feeling that he might.
If they are on their game they can snuff out any opposition and the defensive midfield could be key to Manchester United’s success.
They will need to stop the runs of Yaya Toure and close David Silva down before he has time to do the sort of damage which Manchester United fans have become so painfully familiar with over the last few years.
If De Bruyne plays through the middle then his pace and movement could trouble the veterans.
Key Men:
Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne, Yaya Toure
Manchester United: Anthony Martial, Bastian Schweinsteiger and or Michael Carrick
