When Manchester United finished last season there wasn’t a huge amount of room for optimism.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal had steered the club back to The Champions League but, with Angel di Maria rumoured to want out and other big hitters not performing, United looked one-paced and toothless going forward.
But with each passing week we can now see that, far from having the scattergun approach that many suggested of Manchester United’s summer transfer business, Louis van Gaal has had a masterful summer in the the market.
Matteo Darmian is a great option at either of the full back positions. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin have addressed a paucity in midfield that has held Manchester United back for years.
But it’s up top where Van Gaal has really caught the imagination.
Most of the plaudits for United’s improved form have gone to Anthony Martial. He’s not just an ice-cool finisher but a wonderful all-rounder who links up play and creates room for others.
But, meanwhile Memphis has also been settling in and showing some great form for the club.
He may not have had quite the instant impact of Martial. But with 3 goals, he too has transformed a rather sluggish attack.
These two have pace to burn and have improved the look of the whole team because they put the opponent on the back foot with their speed.
They are both still young and you would imagine that they will have a few more disppointing lessons to learn before they finally achieve world-class status.
But, with these two improving every week, it’s becoming difficult to see many players who could replace them to improve the effect of the team.
Martial is playing better than even Sergio Aguero at the moment – indeed you wouldn’t swap him for any Premier League number 9 on form.
And while Eden Hazard is possibly the most highly rated winger in the league, Memphis can’t be far behind.
If these two continue to fire, we think that Manchester United will win the title this season.
Manchester United fans: are they experienced enough to make the crucial difference in this campaign?
