Manchester City Team vs Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia-Park, September 30 2015
Manchester City: Hart, Sagna, Otamendi, Demichelis, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Sterling, De Bruyne, Silva, Aguero
What to make of Manchester City this season?
On viewing their summer business and their early season form, it looked as if the title was a formality and that they would make huge strides in Europe this time out.
Those eventualities are still possible.
But since the old Achilles Heel resurfaced, with an uncertain 2-1 defeat at home to Juventus on Match Day 1 of The Champions League, City have been all over the shop.
They lost at home to West Ham and got battered by Tottenham last weekend. They did enjoy a clinical away win at Sunderland in the middle but they can’t be happy with the status quo.
Another poor season in Europe and Manuel Pellegrini surely won’t be seeing out that extra year on his contract.
But, on the flip side, Manchester City seem to have made one of the stand-out signings of the summer in Kevin de Bruyne. Although pricey, he looks like a wonderful addition.
The same can’t currently be said for Raheem Sterling who seems to lack the finesse of a £50m man. But he has much time for improvement.
Make no mistake, this is a must-win game for Manchester City.
