This is a strange one.
Over the summer there was speculation that Fenerbahce were keen on Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.
It seemed odd that a player who was held in high esteem by the Arsenal fans and manager would even consider moving to a smaller club in the peak of his career.
But the story has rolled on this week with news of his agent speaking about the interest publicly.
Various media outlets have picked up on the story and The Independent reports:
Mesut Ozil will receive a ‘serious’ offer from Fenerbahce for his services, according to the player’s agent.
..and the agent himself is quoted as saying:
“Fenerbahce are serious but it all depends on what answer Arsenal give. It will all become clear at the end of the season.”
The same report quotes the star, who was born to German parents, as having said in July:
“In the future I want to wear a Fenerbahce shirt. It would be an honour. Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahce fan.”
It may not be a welcome sentiment for most Arsenal fans but, if a ‘serious’ offer did come in, we would get rid of him.
The problem with Ozil is that he garners the loyalty of Arsenal fans by playing really well against average opposition.
But, when it comes to the crunch against the big boys, he goes missing.
It’s the difference between a good and a great player and we firmly believe that Ozil is in the former category.
Were he to give match-winning performance in a game that mattered, against a Barca or Bayern, we too would love him.
But if he isn’t going to perform in such games then what’s the point of building a team around him?
Arsenal fans: still enamoured by Ozil?

He’s the best player in the world’s best national football team. he put in match winning performances against Barca more than once at Real, was Real’s best player when they faced Dortmund in the Champions League and was their only player who showed up. He gave a match winning performance for us against Dortmund in Germany in his first season. He’s class. what you’ve given here are opinions, you should do your research first. We’re a much better team when he’s on the field and he’s definitely not overrated.
