We always moan about the ostensible slackness of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in the market.
But, with all the business that gets done late, we should remember that the transfer window can be one big ‘who blinks first’ contest.
So perhaps we can expect Arsenal to be the biggest movers in the market on transfer deadline day.
Certainly the rumour sparks are flying as the Arsenal boss was spotted in Paris yesterday amidst reports of a major coup in the market. The Daily Mail says:
Arsenal held talks with Paris Saint-Germain on Monday over Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot.
Arsene Wenger, who was pictured in Paris on Monday, is keen on the PSG pair, though a deal for Cavani looks unlikely given the complexities of such a high-profile transfer.
Not only are they both excellent players but they are precisely what Arsenal need.
Cavani can cut through the very best defences with his power, pace and precision in front of goal.
And Rabiot is a very impressive midfielder who could sit on front of the defence and help Coquelin out no end.
With two defensive midfielders in the side, Arsenal wouldn’t look quite so lopsided – they could attack with all their usual abandon but know that the back door was shut behind them.
Whatever happens with these two we would be surprised if there was no investment today by Arsenal.
Arsenal fans: Would Cavani be the perfect addition to the squad today?
