Liverpool: Lovren or Sakho? No contest

A better player

Brendan Rodgers hasn’t always got it right in the market and has spent a lot of money getting it wrong at times.

But we were very encouraged this week to hear that all bids for Liverpool centre back Mamadou Sakho have so far been rejected and that the star has been offered a new contract.

Because he is still a little raw in terms of The English Premier League. But if you ask us who we would play between a fully fit Sakho and Dejan Lovren there is no contest – it’s got to be Sakho every time.

The Guardian states:

Liverpool offer Mamadou Sakho new deal despite losing place in team

The report reminds us that the Frenchman wasn’t even in the squad for Liverpool’s first two league wins of the season against Stoke and Bournemouth as his future continues to look uncertain.

But, given his time again, would the Liverpool boss have spent all that money on Lovren?

He has improved a little on his shaky performances of last campaign, but we still feel he’s overpriced and fairly average.

Conversely, Sakho is apparently being offered a new deal and we think that he could still turn out to be the ideal Premier League centre back for Liverpool.

He’s strong as an ox but also quick and, like fellow Frenchman Eliaquim Mangala down the road at City, once he understands nuances of the English game he will be a top player.

For now Lovren has more experience than Sakho.

But if the Frenchman can keep his head down and focus on getting into the first team, we think that he will be there for a long time.

Let’s see the lad in action.

Liverpool fans: who would you pick of the two?
