4-2-3-1: Manchester United’s probable XI vs Newcastle after LvG’s press conference

Strong

Whatever the furore surrounding transfers in the last couple of weeks of an increasingly manic window, there is no escaping the fact that Manchester United are a serious side to be reckoned with again.

There is little doubt that Manchester United will continue to looking for attacking reinforcements in the coming days, with Sadio Mane the latest name on the lips of the media.

But in defence and midfield this is an extremely hard team to break down.

All of a sudden the team is beginning to click and reminding us, in spurts, of the great United teams of yesteryear.

It looks as if Bastian Schweinsteiger is now fit enough to start matches instead of coming on in the second half and his presence is palpable from the moment he steps on the pitch.

His passing, positioning and overall influence is going to be crucial for Manchester United this season and, if he stays fit, the club has a good chance of silverware.

The other selection issue is with Rojo and Blind.

Blind will probably keep his place for now but Rojo is getting close to match fitness and will provide a compelling case for inclusion when completely fit.

But, as we have said before, the passing ability of the Dutchman could keep him in the side as his partnership with Chris Smalling continues to blossom.

Manchester United still need a right winger and this is the area where we expect investment in the next 10 days.

But here is our eleven to face Newcastle.

Manchester United fans: thoughts please.
