After just one point on the board from two games, it’s been a disappointing start to the season for Newcastle United.
And with Manchester United away next up for Steve McClaren’s side Newcastle may well be playing catch up before August is out.
What is clear as day is that the squad needs more investment.
And, to that end, there appears to be good news for Newcastle fans today as Florian Thauvin is said to be in talks over a move. Sky Sports reports:
Newcastle are in advanced discussions with Marseille over winger Florian Thauvin, according to Sky sources.
The 22-year-old attacker is expected on Tyneside later on Tuesday to meet Newcastle officials and could undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.
At 22 the Marseille attacking midfielder/winger is at an exciting age.
He is still learning his trade but has enough ability to make a big impact straight away at Newcastle.
There is talk of the underwhelming Remi Cabella going the other way.
But what is most important is that Newcastle get this deal over the line because Thauvin can add pace and sparkle to the front line.
Thauvin has scored a notable 7 goals in 10 games for the France U21 side.
He’s also become a regular starter at Marseille, playing 40 games in 2013/14 and scoring 10 goals (6 assists).
Last season’s stats were similar with 38 appearances and 5 goals (8 assists).
The 22 year old is a quick and skillful player who knows where the goal is.
Let’s see the lad in action.
Newcastle fans: is this signing enough to kickstart the season?
