Manchester United: The Inevitable Conclusion with David de Gea

De Gea - World Class

Annoying

David de Gea is said to be ‘baffled’ by Louis van Gaal’s suggestion on Thursday that the Spaniard doesn’t want to play for Manchester United.

We think that, in fairness to Louis van Gaal, he still doesn’t have the greatest command of the English language and, had he been interviewed in Dutch, he would have packaged his comments with more diplomacy.

But he is still dealing with Manchester United players in a noticeably different way to Sir Alex Ferguson, who was loathe to air his dirty washing in public and would regularly assassinate reporters with a stare at the mere mention of contentious issues with his employees.

The Daily Mail states today:

The David de Gea saga has taken another twist after the Manchester United goalkeeper was said to be ‘baffled’ by claims from manager Louis van Gaal that he has asked not to play for the club.

Van gaal was quoted as saying on the matter:

‘Frans Hoek had a meeting with David De Gea and asked him “do you want to play?”. No.

‘Then I have to take the decision. It is a process. We had been observing him in preparation and he was not so good. He was not the same David de Gea as before.

‘He was my best player last season. According to the fans, he was the best of the last two years.’

And The Guardian weighs in with:

De Gea’s future at the club is in the balance. It is understood he trained with the reserve squad this week and there would be some surprise if the 24-year-old is still a United player when the transfer window closes on 1 September.

De Gea may not get his move after all if Manchester United stand firm. But this latest round of comments has perhaps further alienated the Spaniard from the club and United increasingly look bent over a barrel.

If they are really concerned about the player’s focus then they will want to offload him imminently and bring in a top quality replacement – Romero is decent but not a title winning keeper.

But signings take time and Manchester United may soon have to concede defeat and allow the player to leave for less money than they want.

Sadly for Manchester United fans, we feel that this one is inevitable.

David de Gea will leave Manchester United for Real Madrid in this window and the big question is whether United will have time to sign a worthy successor.
