In terms of new signings, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has stated regularly this summer that:
“Sometimes we have to buy but when you buy it has to be better than what you have – that is the theory but in the season we shall see if that is true.”
And, after a disjointed opening game of the season – albeit a performance to be expected after a raft of new arrivals – we would be gobsmacked if the boss didn’t make full use of the remainig weeks of the window by signing several more stars. When you consider that Manchester United have spent around £80m but accrued about £55m with the sales of Di Maria, Nani, RvP and Rafa da Silva (with the De Gea move also pending), The Reds have hardly touched their transfer kitty.
We expect a new goalkeeper, two forwards and possibly a centre back to come in. But, with the famous jersey conspicuous by it’s absence at the weekend, who will be Manchester United’s next number 9? We look at a few alternatives.
Pedro
Perhaps Manchester United’s most likely next signing. But he’s more of a number 7 than a 9. Could well still get the jersey however.
Pedro to United: Get it done
Harry Kane
There is smouldering interest in this story from the media. But Spurs won’t want to sell their best asset. Maybe a massive bid plus Javier Hernandez could tempt them.
Marco Reus
We think that he would be the best signing that Manchester United could make this summer. Although not a classic number 9, he would add pace and precision to the attack.
Benzema/Cavani/Higuain/Zlatan
All these guys could be considered top class additions but LvG has stressed several times that Wazza will be his main number 9 this season. Rooney looked a bit leggy against Spurs but always takes time to find his rhythm with that stocky frame.
But don’t completely discount a new addition of the classic number 9 variety to add fire power to a hitherto tame looking front line.
Cristiano Ronaldo/Gareth Bale
A lovely idea but also a fanciful one.

Pedro and Lewandownski would be excellent additions but if Lvg sticks to his word and does not sign a new centre forward, then i will be pleased with Pedro and one of Reus.

Just saw Bale’s name on the list, yes he would be the headline signing, his name along with Ronaldo would make epl defenders shiver but it’s also very unlikely that Real would part from either!

Forget Kane.not world class..for a start smalling Evans and jones are shite.
need to build from the back..need a leader at the back..a captain who can talk and give orders…all the fuss about forwards.let face it were crap at the back..when we come up against a decent team our defence will get exposed then well have to throw on 3 forwards and chase the game.weve not replaced Río and vidic..that will be our downfall.trust me

Man united should first reinforce defend b4 it is late no wonder pedro is a gud signing but central leader at the back is necessary otherwise top 4 is unthinkable with likes of blind,evan,jones,smalling,rojo,damian, n shaw if we look chelsea,city,liverpool,arsenal very solid and experience otamendi,pedro/reus and kane/benzema
