Another priceless press conference with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal ahead of the new season.
His conferences are rarely anything other than compelling and he didn’t let us down with his first public address of the new campaign.
He came out fighting and seemed somewhat annoyed by the persistence of the media with regards the future of David de Gea.
Van Gaal confirmed that De Gea won’t play this weekend as his future is up in the air.
‘He shall not play’ said The Dutchman.
But the Manchester United manager also suggested that Bastian Schweinsteiger isn’t yet of the level of fitness that is required for The Premier League. Of the World Cup winner LvG said:
‘I don’t that he is fit enough.. so we have to build to the fitness that he needs’
Whether that means starting the German and giving him 60 minutes, or bringing him on as a sub remains to be seen.
But Manchester United finally have great depth in that area of the park and Michael Carrick and Morgan Schneiderlin both looked in excellent health in preseason. So perhaps it would be more likely to see that pairing starting the game against Tottenham.
