Manchester United have seemingly conceded defeat in their attempts to sign Sergio Ramos as the Real Madrid captain now appears likely to stay at his club and sign a new contract – no real surprise there then.

But many Manchester United fans are much more excited by the prospect of bringing young talent to the club and so it will please them to hear that The Guardian is continuing to suggest that Louis van Gaal is interested in signing John Stones this summer.

We think that this guy could be the next Rio Ferdinand. High praise indeed but he is one of the few centre backs in the modern game who has the skill to go with the strength.

The Guardian writes:

United have contacted intermediaries working on Stones’s behalf to make him aware that they would welcome him at Old Trafford

No approach has yet been made and Chelsea are still said to be the more serious suitor.

But with Everton clearly unhappy with the public courting of the lad by Jose Mourinho, they may now prefer to sell to Manchester United.

And the player himself may prefer to stay in the North West of England than uproot to London at such an early stage of his career.

At 21 Stones has played 4 times for England and looks to be a dead cert for whichever club he plays for.

He is quick, reads the game brilliantly and is a wonderful passer of the ball.

The report suggests that his fee may eventually be around 42m Euros.

But for a player who will give ten years plus of top service to United this seems like a comparative bargain in today’s market.

We think that Manchester United should pull out all the stops to sign Stones because he would be a far better investment than Sergio Ramos.

Let’s see the lad in action.
