According to Louis van Gaal, Manchester United are in the market for more creativity at the business end of the park this summer.
And, after huge amounts of speculation about who the club may bring in up top, one of latest names in the hat could be Romelu Lukaku.
The 22 year old Belgian, who already has 37 caps and 8 goals for his country, has had a decent couple of seasons at Goodison park after hi initial loan and then permanent transfer to the club.
But it hasn’t always been the smoothest of professional relationships, with the striker’s new agent Mino Raiola, saying in April:
“If we had met each other earlier, he wouldn’t have played for Everton,”
A pretty incendiary thing to say, which lead some to believe that the player wanted another move.
Lukaku scored 20 in 48 games last season and 16 in 33 the year before. And according to Sky Sports, his odds have suddenly come in:
Everton’s Romelu Lukaku has been backed in to 7/4 from 6/1 to join Manchester United
We have to say that we like the left footed centre forward.
He’s a big strong lad but also has very good technique.
But we don’t think that he necessarily ticks the boxes in terms of what Louis van Gaal is looking for.
We believe that Wayne Rooney will carry the main goalscoring burden this season and that Manchester United will instead focus their attentions on signing a top winger and a centre back.
Manchester United will eventually need to reinforce their striker options so we wouldn’t completely rule out a move this summer.
But he won’t be a priority for United at this point.
Let’s see him in action.
Manchester United fans: good enough?
