Ok, let’s not pretend the that Manchester United would have it easy if they wanted to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club.
What we can assume with confidence is that they would want him, should he be available.
We can also safely state that, of all the clubs in the world, Manchester United are one of the handful who could afford him.
But the will of the player and his club could be completely different. Ronaldo has scored more goals than he has played games for Madrid and he will go down as one of their best players of all time.
There have been recent rumours, however, that Real Madrid may be willing to sell the 30 year old and, indeed, speculation from third parties that the player himself may be ready to have a change.
Putting aside the logistics for a second let’s imagine that he does come back to Manchester United this summer.
What a transfer that would be!
After a few years of rather pedestrian football, Manchester United would surely be back to their counter attacking best, getting the ball from one end of the park to the other in a matter of moments and putting the fear of god into the opponent.
With the excellent and pacy Memphis Depay on one side and Ronaldo the other, Wayne Rooney would surely be laughing all the way to the golden boot next season.
In a 4-3-3 Manchester United would have a beautifully streamlined and uncluttered front line, guarded by a wonderfully solid midfield which possesses great passers of the ball like Schweinsteiger and Carrick.
It’s a distant prospect right now. But Manchester United would have a decent shout for The Champions League if they made this deal happen.
So here’s our best XI with Ronaldo. Manchester United fans: let’s have your XIs.

“Jumpers for goalposts” Nice fantasy but thats all it is. Theres as much chance of tempting George Best back from the grave as getting Ronaldo from Real. Even if it somehow did happen (it won’t!) CR7 is 30 and has suffered injuries, he is not the player he once was and will probably play more centrally for Real next season. The only time you’ll see him play in a United shirt at Old Trafford again is in Rooney’s testimonial.
