It’s that time of the year when futures are decided and hype abounds.
But, with every passing day, there seems to be more weight and substance in the Muller to Manchester United story.
To further fan the flames of speculation Bayern Munchen captain Philipp Lahm has given no assurances about the future of Muller. He said:
“It’s not my decision,” Lahm told reporters in Shanghai, where Bayern are facing Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly. “Things can happen very quickly in football.
“I certainly can’t provide any guarantee for Thomas Muller (staying).”
At 25 years of age, and having won multiple Bundesliga titles as well as The World Cup and The Champions League, it may well be seen by the lad as a good time for a change.
The news comes amidst concern from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge who thinks that German clubs are getting left behind by the spending and financial muscle of The Premier League. He said:
“The English are beating us left, right and centre when it comes to television income, marketing, signings… everything”, the Bayern supremo said. “I think that the Bundesliga needs to be careful not to get left behind”.
FINAL WORD: Thomas Muller would undoubtedly strengthen the squad of Manchester United.
But we were rather hoping that Louis van Gaal would follow the spellbinding formula that he created at Bayern of one main striker with frighteningly pacy wide men either side in a 4-3-3.
The signing of Muller wouldn’t necessarily halt that idea – he did after all play for LvG at Bayern – but we would prefer United to sign another flying winger than the German, as their main marquee signing of the summer.
Manchester United fans: a good buy?
