51 Caps and 16 goals: Liverpool now in the driving seat to sign celebrated forward and World Cup winner? Report

Stunning

We believe that this one would be a real coup for Liverpool and perhaps the best deal of the lot.

Because, while Liverpool have bought a lot of youngish talent with great potential again this summer – Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino chief amongst them – they haven’t yet acquired any world class talent with great experience.

Step forward Pedro of Barcelona.

He seems to have been linked with a move away from Barcelona since the inception of mobile phones. Yet the move has never materialised – perhaps due to his huge release clause.

But he signed a new deal in the summer and this has perhaps, rather bizarrely, facilitated a move away from his current club. Because his release clause has been reduced from 8 figures to a much more palatable £22m.

The Express sees fit to pass on reports from Spain on the potential move by stating:

Pedro – class

Let’s not pretend that Pedro hasn’t been important to the success of the best club side of all time.

He has played 318 times and scored nearly 100 goals for his club as they have swept all before them.

He also has 51 caps and 16 goals for Spain.

He just hasn’t been able to get in the Barca side ahead of Messi, Suarez and Neymar – no shame in that.

But, at 27, he is an artist with great composure and efficiency and he would undoubtedly walk into the Liverpool first team and make them a much stronger outfit.

If Brendan Rodgers can do this deal it could be his best one of the summer.

Because, with the departure of Steven Gerrard, we feel that Liverpool need some more experience in the side to go with the youthful exuberance.

To this end, Pedro could be the perfect man for the job.

Let’s see him in action.

Apparently he’s agreed to go to Manure.
