2nd Summer Signing Agreed: Medical at Manchester United as player and boss confirm transfer – report

Darmian: Quick

Great news for Manchester United fans today as news filters through of Matteo Darmian’s impending medical. The 25 year old Italian international has even penned a farewell letter to the Torino faithful, where he outlines his decision to leave.

The Telegraph reports:

Darmian is expected to undergo his medical at United’s AON Training Complex shortly and fly out with Louis van Gaal’s squad to the US on Monday.

And Darmian penned this letter to the Torino fans:

The day has come, after three fantastic years, to leave Turin.

It has been a wonderful three years where I learned to play, have fun and I learned above all to live! It is thanks to my team-mates and my fans and Mr (Giampiero) Ventura, who is more than a coach to me, a second father.

Right now I have no words, I’m just crying. Remember that I leave Turin for a future career choice, not because I am evil. Turin will always be my second home, I never tire of her. I wish good luck to all the team and the fans.

And his manager at Torino said:

“Matteo Darmian will play for Manchester United. It’s a dream for him,” Ventura said.

“It’s true, Darmian will play in the Champions League with Manchester United.

Darmian has been something of a late developer. He took time to get into the Italian team. But since last year he has become a regular and started every group game for Italy at The World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

He is solid yet adventurous – he’s a diligent defender but also scores goals – he hit 5 last season – and has a really accurate shot on him. He’s not that explosive off the mark but is a typical, canny Italian defender who will most definitely make Manchester United stronger at the back.

The question now is who makes way for the Italian. Darmian will expect to play every week and that means much less game time for Antonio Valencia and Rafael da Silva. There has been speculation about the futures of both and at least one may well now leave the club this summer with Rafa possibly bound for Italy.

Let’s see Darmian in action. Manchester United fans: what do you think of your new signing?
