Perceived snub is great news for Manchester United

Good move

Come on. Be honest. How many of you Manchester United fans were apprehensive about the club going for the 30 year old Bastian Schweinsteiger?

He’s been a fantastic player for club and country in his long career at the top, winning almost everything on offer. But at 30 years of age we can’t help thinking that the signing would be taking Manchester United in the wrong direction.

He is a player who isn’t going to get any better and may soon get worse. He’s a blood a guts midfielder whose style would surely have taken its toll on his body but Manchester United need more energy and mobility in the middle than they currently have.

Recent quotes, ascribed to the player, suggest that he’s planning to stay at his current club, despite all the rumour suggesting that Manchester United want him:

“We’ve won the Bundesliga for three consecutive times, no team ever has managed to win it four times. That’s a motivation

“I feel good and I’m ready to play the next three years at the top level. That’s my goal.”

This seems very much to be a premeditated way of committing himself to Bayern. This in turn should push the far better investment, Morgan Schneiderlin, into the arms of Manchester United.

Schneiderlin has proven himself to be one of the best players in The Premier League – so he’s a low risk addition. At 25 he can have the same sort of career at Manchester United as Michael Carrick – so he has longevity on his side too. And he will be hungry to win things after not yet taking any major trophies for club or country.

Manchester United fans should be delighted by the development because Schneiderlin can be a top drawer signing for the club as well as a great long-term investment.
