The grizzled Argentinian defender ticks all the boxes in terms of experience, quality and the sheer bloody-minded desire to defend.
The 28 year old has played 31 times for Argentina and spent periods at Real Madrid and Benfica before moving to Zenit last summer. After a year of freezing his chops off there, he may well fancy a move to London and Arsenal.
We think that it would represent a decent move for a player who won’t let anyone down at The Emirates and could well spend his best years there. These are largely unsubstantiated reports at the moment but it would be a good move, for our money.
