PICTURE: A Potential Liverpool XI with Clyne, Firmino and The Balletic Bulldozer

Solid and fast

It’s all falling into place nicely for Liverpool and many of us feel more confident about the transfer activity of Brendan Rodgers so far this summer than we did last.

We still believe that players like Emre Can and Alberto Moreno can be a big success at the club over the coming years.

But the acquisition of one of the best players in the Brazil team and, with any luck, a right back who will surely be a nailed on starter for England for the next six years at least, means that there is genuine cause for optimism.

We are miffed to hear that some Liverpool fans are unsure about the potential purchase of that balletic bulldozer Christian Benteke. The big Belgian is exactly what Liverpool were lacking last season – a skillful, hard working and ruthless presence up top. And we also believe that when Daniel Sturridge comes back into the fold in the late autumn that both of them can play together and form a great partnership – either with two up top or in a 4-3-3 with Sturridge a little wider.

Benteke is a top player and Liverpool would be an altogether more frightening team with him in it next season.

If we could add another player after all these recruits? A keeper who gives us more confidence than Mignolet. Why oh why has Brendan not yet made an official move for Asmir Begovic?

So here is how we think Liverpool could line up come season start, with the assumption that Sturridge won’t be ready for the Stoke game. Liverpool fans: a title challenging side?

Moreno is the weakest link, too small, too wide, not a natural defender, needs to stay within 10 yards of Sakho, keep all wingers on the outside, don’t get beaten in the channels….don’t be too clever….learn to defend….
