Liverpool fans have enjoyed some consolation after a hugely disappointing season as the club has been more active in the market than most.
The signing of Roberto Firmino has wowed the fans and Nathaniel Clyne looks almost certain to now become the sixth signing for the summer with The Telegraph stating on Thursday:
England right-back will become the sixth summer signing for Brendan Rodgers and is poised for medical next week.
We think Clyne could turn out to be an absolute sensation for Liverpool. He has many of the same qualities as Glen Johnson but just seems to do everything a little bit better. He’s the sort of right back who wins man of the match awards.
With that deal soon to be concluded Liverpool will surely look again at the number 9 berth and reports suggest that the club will now up their bid for Villa’s Christian Benteke.
The Mirror is just one of the newspapers which carries the story:
the Reds are expected to return to Aston Villa within the next few days with a massive new offer for Christian Benteke.
Boss Brendan Rodgers has had one bid of around £22m rejected by the Midlands club, who insist they will not come to the table concerning the Belgium international until a release clause of £32.5m is triggered.
Meanwhile, the venerable Times states:
Liverpool want Christian Benteke to become the seventh acquisition of their summer spending spree, but will step up their pursuit of the forward only if Aston Villa are willing to compromise on their £32.5 million asking price.
There appear to be some differences of opinion about the quality of this lad. We have no such concerns about him. At the right club Benteke can become a £50m rated player. He’s got everything in his locker to top the scoring charts in England.
He was out for a long time with injury but he came back to the boil towards the end of the last season and hit 15 in 32 for a struggling Villa last season. In total he has 49 in 99 – a ratio which would be decent even for a free scoring, top club. Even Benzema’s goal scoring rate at Madrid isn’t that high.
Benteke is a balletic bulldozer. Like Didier Drogba he can handle the biggest of centre backs with ease but also has a beautifully soft touch. At 24 he’s got 8 years of top service in the tank and could become a Liverpool legend.
So, fears assuaged, let’s take a look at him in action.
