Liverpool close in on yet another excellent signing – report

Good work Brendan

While there was a certain amount of apprehension with regards Liverpool’s transfer activity last summer – when the Suarez money largely went on promising colts – there appears to be a lot more excitement and confidence in the purchases of Brendan Rodgers this summer.

Because, while he has stuck to the idea of investing in youngish players, the pick of the signings so far have greater calibre and experience.

Roberto Firmino looks every inch a player of the year contender for next season already. He has a similar command of the ball as the imperious David Silva at Manchester City, but he scores loads of goals too.

And Danny Ings could turn out to be a great coup for the club. He may be young but he has already had a decent grounding in The Premier League and will score more goals than any of Liverpool’s back up strikers did last season.

The potential capture of Nathaniel Clyne – the sixth signing of an already very busy summer – may prove to be the best of the lot. The Telegraph reports that a Liverpool bid has been accepted by Southampton and the player could join the club next week:

England right-back will become the sixth summer signing for Brendan Rodgers and is poised for medical next week.

With Glen Johnson waning badly last year and Jon Flanagan still some way from a return to the first team, Liverpool are desperate for a new right back and they couldn’t have done much better than this.

Clyne is a powerhosue. A fearless and progressive right back who is as comfortable attacking as he is defending. And he’s great at both.

We think that this could well turn out to be the pick of Liverpool’s summer signings.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action.
