Manchester United intermediaries have discussed the idea of swapping out raw pace for a pedestrian veteran according to report

Offski?

Ridiculous

Is it us or is Manchester United’s transfer policy taking a nose dive?

Let’s remember that it’s all speculation at this point – the one piece of business that Manchester United have completed was the excellent purchase of the jet-heeled young Dutch star Memphis Depay.

But latest reports continue to suggest a very questionable line of potential business, as The Daily Mail reports:

Intermediaries have discussed the possibilities of Bastian Schweinsteiger being involved in a swap deal with Angel di Maria but the differences on finances for the 31-year-old Germany international meant talks barely got off the ground.
An independent deal for Schweinsteiger though has not yet been ruled out.

Offski?

Offski?

Thank heavens that didn’t get off the ground. Angel di Maria had a poor season by his standards. But he still managed far more assists than any of his team mates even though he spent half of the season on the bench.

Furthermore, this Manchester United squad is seriously lacking in pace and Di Maria is one of the few with ground speed as a genuine attribute.

We think Schweinsteiger would be a decent, if not ideal, addition. But the idea of swapping him for Di Maria is bizarre. While Di Maria has much to prove and is in his prime, the German has surely run his best yards already.

111 games for Germany and 560 odd club matches is going to take its toll when you are a box to box midfield general who likes to get stuck in. Do you really think a club like Bayern would let him go if he wasn’t on the wane?

It’s another rumour which leaves us somewhat concerned about the summer transfer activity at Manchester United. While the brilliant 23 year old Brazilian, Roberto Firmino, has been snapped up by Liverpool, United are apparently trying to sign golden oldies.
