Barcelona linked with signing of speed demon

Despite winning the lot last season Barcelona will be chomping at the bit to sign some more players. Many believe that to stand still is to go backward in the world of football.

The fact that their ban is lifted for the January window further complicates the issue as many top players and clubs don’t want to make big transfer moves in the winter in the midst of big competitions.

But Barcelona will clearly be planning for their next purchase already and one name which has popped up in the Spanish media of late is that of Angel di Maria.

The former Real Madrid man went to Manchester United last summer for a British record £60m. And, while he started well, he fell off the pace badly and spent most of the second half of the season on the bench.

While many Manchester United fans would like to see him stay at the club, he may well move on as he doesn’t appear to have settled in England.

Sport.es says:

Barca: Contact for Di Maria

Angel Di Maria doesn’t know what shirt he wears next season. Today, during the Copa America, Argentina assumes only two realities: the first is that he has a contract with Manchester United. The second is that his desire is none other than to leave Old Trafford as soon as possible.

Bold statements indeed. But we wonder whether Di Maria is the right player for a Barcelona team which simply demands to hold onto the ball.

Even at his best, and the lad is far from it right now, Di Maria is an expensive player. He makes things happen but gives the ball away frequently with his high risk strategy. Sometimes we wonder whether even he knows what he’s going to do with the ball.

But, at Manchester United, we have seen a player who seems to want to take on the entire opposition when he gets possession. He’s certainly not the sort of unselfish, one touch, pass and move type that has done so well at Barcelona over the last few years.

Di Maria to Barcelona is an interesting prospect – he is certainly not without great attributes. But we would argue that he may not be tailor made for this style of club.

Let’s see him in action. Barcelona fans: worth the money?

Di maria is very good. But i think coming to barcelona to play midfield is a risk to his career. He cant change any of Messi,Neymar and suarez and his type of midfield is not needed in barcelona. Veratti, coutinho, koke etc are better midfielders to fit in there… Not even pogba is qualified to play @ barca.
