Newcastle will certainly need to sign a new striker next season as they simply didn’t score enough goals last term. But the concern must also extend to the supply lines as well as the finishers.

If Charlie Austin signs for the club he’ll need better service than was provided last season and latest reports suggest that Newcastle have their eye on a really promising young talent. The Newcastle Chronicle reports:

Newcastle United showing interest in Florian Thauvin – as interest builds in Papiss Cisse

At 22, this 5ft 10in winger is still very much in his formative years. But he has already shown enough in his time with Marseille – where he has stats of 15 goals and 14 assists in 79 games – to suggest that he is the real deal – or beginning to approach that status at least.

Thauvin has also been a prolific France youth international with 7 goals in 10 games for the U21s and 7 in 16 for the U20s. He’s got a lovely, consistent delivery with that left foot, but also knows where the onion bag is.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Newcastle fans: is this the type of player that you would like to see at the club next season or should Steve McClaren be concentrating on the defensive areas of the team first?
