Manchester United will surely sign another midfield general this summer. Michael Carrick not only proved his importance to the side when he was playing last season, but also when he wasn’t.
Because, without him, the team just couldn’t control games or kill them off. At 33 Carrick’s influence could wane next season and Manchester United need new ideas.
Many names have been bandied around in this respect but one name that has resurfaced of late, in relation to a Manchester United transfer, is William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon and Portugal. The Daily Mail reports:
William Carvalho has been linked with a move to Europe’s top clubs
Manchester United and Arsenal are keen on the Portugal midfielder
He looked close to a move last summer but has since knuckled down and got on with the job in hand. But he’s such a rare talent that, at 23, he will surely move on before too long.
Carvalho looks like the perfect modern midfielder and has stylistic similarities with the legendary Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure – he’s strong, glides across the turf effortlessly, covers every blade of grass and dominates physically. But he’s also got wonderful technique. He loves the one and two touch game and has great passing ability.
We think that he’s an excellent player and one that Manchester United should certainly be taking another close look at this summer.
Let’s take a look at him in action ourselves.
