Biggest summer spenders? Manchester City press ahead with ambitious transfer plans according to reports

If reports are to be believed then Manchester City are one of the earliest clubs to make major transfer moves this summer. And it looks as if they are about to spend big.

The Raheem Sterling story simmers on and Manchester City still look best placed to make him their major summer signing.

Vincent Kompany has also waxed lyrical about another target, with the subtext pointing towards interest from his club. He is quoted as saying of fellow Belgian Kevin de Bruyne:

“Kevin is a phenomenal talent. He’s a game-changer, he’s efficient in front of goal but he’s also a great passer, which is probably his biggest quality,”

“I try not to influence too much but I do recognise the fact that he’s an unbelievable talent and any team he goes to, he will make that team stronger.

And the midfield department also looks set for a re-fit with Yaya Toure potentially leaving the club this summer. The main suspects here are Paul Pogba and Jack Wilshere and, to this end, The Daily Star reckons:

Man City to make £40m bid for Jack Wilshere if Paul Pogba snubs them

Pogba: Absolute titan

Pogba: Absolute titan

The implication is that Manchester City still see Pogba as a major target. But, with teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona potentially interested, City may have to be realistic about their ability to snare the lad.

And Wilshere is a very interesting prospect. Although injury has stemmed his development he has wonderful skill and reminds us of a young Paul Gascoigne with his ability and desire to run straight into the heart of the opponent.

Whether Arsenal would sell a young Englishman of this quality remains to be seen but it certainly makes for an interesting summer at The Etihad.

Manchester City fans: would Wilshere be a decent replacement for Yaya?

WILSHIRE IS OVERHYPED BECAUSE HE IS ENGLISH. HE WILL NEVER BE ANYWHERE NEAR THE PLAYER THAT YAYA WAS IN HIS PRIME OR INDEED AS HE IS NOW.

Christ, I hope we don’t get Wilshire. He is overhyped more so than most english players and anything over £15m would be overpaying.

Sterling again is the same, would be very happy to have him for £30m but no more.

Don’t know why we don’t tell Liverpool to do one, go and buy De Bruyne for £30m, Delph for £15m, Pogba £60m +Jovetic/Dzeko then use the rest for a world class left back.
