Special talent

Arsenal fans will be buoyed by the fact that coach Arsene Wenger is reportedly making the right moves in the transfer market this summer. With the age old goalkeeping problem to be potentially sorted by the arrival of Petr Cech, Wenger can move on to his midfield and reports today suggest that a big bid has been made. The Sun says:

ARSENAL have tabled a fresh £28.5million (€39.8m) bid for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.

Beast!

Beast!

We believe that if Arsenal sign this lad, Geoffrey Kondogbia or Morgan Schneiderlin they will be far closer to winning the league next season. Carvalho is a majestic midfielder who reminds us of Patrick Vieira. He’s physically dominant and a great competitor in the engine room but also has great technique and real elegance to his game. He’s a passer of excellent range and quality and he’d be a really exciting long-term addition to the Arsenal side.

With other teams surely interested in such a fine talent Arsenal will have to move decisively for the lad and the hefty price tag could be a stumbling block as Wenger is not known for spending heavily on the more defensive-minded players. But Carvalho – who has played 13 times for Portugal – is just the box to box man that The Gunners could use and, at 23, his transfer fee would be offset by his potential longevity at Arsenal.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Arsenal fans: a great solution?
